Fantastic to find out today that the contractor undertaking large pipe rectification work in Yarra City Council is leading the way on the circular economy. Chris Coker from Fox Drainage Group confirmed they are using 100% recycled concrete crushed rock as bedding material for the concrete stormwater pipes they are installing in Clifton Hill.
And the crushed recycled concrete rock is cheaper than the virgin product by $6-7/tne.
The concrete rock mix is fines to 20mm class 2 rock, suitable for bedding sand for pipes or under pavement where class 2 rock is approved for use.
One advantage is that the mix already contains cement content to help bind the load bearing mix together.
The material Fox use is sourced from City Circle plants in Brooklyn and Dandenong.
Stay tuned for more information on circular material use.
