Operational waste management plans
At LID Consulting we will prepare an operational waste management plan for your multi-unit, mixed use or non-residential development, independently or in conjunction with a demolition and construction waste management plan or with your ESD report.
We follow local council guidelines, Development Control Plans, the Sustainability Victoria Guide to Best Practice for Waste Management in Multi Unit Developments Guidelines, the NSW EPA Better Practice Guidelines for Waste Management and Recycling in Commercial and Industrial Facilities and always liaise with council’s waste management team once we have a satisfactory proposal.
Our plans identify ways to minimise waste, maximise recycling and reduce the waste footprint of a development. A good waste management plan will improve the recycling behaviour of residents by making recycling easy. In developments that will exist for multiple decades, small regular improved recycling performances built into the design become significant over the life of a building.
Considering waste management strategies early in the design avoids difficult redesign issues later in a project and helps ensure best practice outcomes.

Demolition and construction waste management plans
A waste management plan can also encompass demolition and construction waste – in addition to setting the parameters for managing residents/tenants waste when the building is occupied. At LID Consulting we also prepare simple-to-follow demolition and construction waste management plans, which identify behaviour and sub-contractors that can minimise waste, maximise recycling and reduce the waste footprint of a development.
Demolition and construction waste management plans, as generally required by councils, address the collection and disposal of waste generated during the demolition and construction of multi-unit residential, retail, restaurant, commercial, mixed use, industrial, shopping centre or any larger sites.
Considering your waste management strategy prior to demolition or construction can:
- Save money
- Help ensure best practice recycling and waste minimisation outcomes
- Satisfy council planning process or client requirements.
A good waste management plan or process will also improve the recycling behaviour of all parties involved by making recycling easy. This is simple environmentalism.
Our consultants
We have 15 years’ experience in multi-unit and commercial design and construction so our solutions will be smart, easy to implement, tailored to your development and practical.
To account for variances in Council officers’ interpretation of best practice, we discuss our WMP recommendations and obtain council waste team comments prior to submission as a standard procedure. Our ESD consultants have a reputation for their expertise, efficiency and promptness from clients as well as council staff.

Our waste management plans have a reputation for being clearly presented and easy to understand at a glance and we turn most WMP reports around within a week of engagement but have done them sooner to meet client timelines.
